Nestled in the heart of San Francisco’s Nob Hill neighborhood, Cordon Bleu Vietnamese Restaurant offers a delightful and authentic Vietnamese dining experience that’s anything but ordinary. This cozy, intimate spot is a true gem for those craving bold, home-style Vietnamese flavors crafted with care and precision.
From the moment you step inside, the warm, no-frills ambiance welcomes you like a cherished neighborhood haunt. Though compact—with limited seating and a casual bar-style setup—the focus here is unequivocally on delivering exceptional food that punches well above its humble footprint.
The menu showcases an impressive array of traditional Vietnamese dishes highlighted by Cordon Bleu’s distinctive specials. Among the crowd favorites is the Five Spice Chicken, lauded by regulars for its juicy, tender texture and perfectly balanced seasoning that creates a symphony of fragrant warmth in every bite. Equally irresistible is their Imperial Roll Shish Kebab and Rice with Meat Sauce, a complete meal offering layers of texture and flavor—from crispy exterior rolls to succulent kebabs paired with flavorful, savory rice.
For lighter fare, the Noodle Salad stands out—a refreshing bed of rice vermicelli and greens complemented by a crispy imperial roll and tender shredded shish kebab, delivering both vibrant freshness and satisfying heartiness. Vegetarian diners will find thoughtful options as well, such as the Veggie Noodle Salad with crunchy cucumber and basil, dusted with chopped peanuts and paired with delightful vegetarian rolls.
House specials like the Spicy Pork Chop bring a punch of fiery, aromatic richness served alongside green onion oil-infused rice and a tangy tomato cucumber salad, while the Ma Po Tofu offers a sumptuous fusion of minced pork and silky bean curd bathed in a creamy, garlicky oyster sauce, showcasing the kitchen’s mastery at blending textures and bold tastes.
Patrons frequently praise the generous portion sizes and reasonable prices, which make each visit feel like a rewarding culinary discovery rather than just a meal. Jake Byman highlights the “impeccable” imperial roll and noodle salad, while Maria T appreciates the authentic, friendly vibe created by the welcoming staff, affectionately referred to as “the aunties.” Matt Nguyen calls it a “hole-in-the-wall gem” where the juiciness and seasoning of the chicken dishes set a high bar for quality and flavor.
Be mindful that this popular hotspot is cash-only, a small detail that fits with its charmingly old-school character. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Cordon Bleu Vietnamese Restaurant is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking genuine Vietnamese cuisine that feeds both the body and soul. The intimate, bustling environment, combined with kitchen-crafted dishes that evoke the comfort of a homemade feast, promises an experience that’s as authentic as it is satisfying.
Delicious meal at Cordon Bleu. The imperial roll and the noodle salad were both impeccable. Great portion sizes, reasonable prices, and very, very high quality food. Will happy be back, hopefully soon!
The aunties are really friendly. It's a small restaurant. The menu is quite unique but the five spice chicken is very tasty. Generous serving and inexpensive. Next time I would like to try mapo tofu.
Absolute hole-in-the-wall gem. The place is tiny — think shoulder-to-shoulder bar space with just one table — but that’s part of its charm. Despite its humble setup, the food punches way above its weight. The chicken dish was fantastic — juicy, flavorful, and seasoned perfectly. Just one note: ask for the sauce on the side next time, since it’s poured over the rice by default and can get a bit heavy. The mapo tofu came in a generous portion, with silky-soft tofu and rich, savory flavor. It leaned a bit salty and wasn’t really spicy (even though the server checked if we wanted it spicy), but still really tasty overall. Extras? Free hot tea, always a plus. The best part — cash or Venmo only, and two full plates came out to under $30. Hard to beat that in the city. Overall: cozy, unpretentious, and packed with flavor. A must-try if you’re nearby and want great food without the frills.
No wonder it's popular with the folks around here! Got the combo #4. Delicious! No frills kind of place. Note this place is Cash only!!!
This little spot had some of the most delicious and affordable cooking around, which felt like a homemade meal. I ended up trying their #5 and loved it all. The chicken, the kebabs, and the imperial roll were chefs kiss. It is a small space, and while there were spaces when we got in, expect a tight and cozy environment.
Amazing food, great prices, and a fantastic atmosphere! I ordered the #5 and it was absolutely delicious. I loved it and would 100% come back.
this place is such a hidden gem serving the most authentic Vietnamese food in the city. prices are excellent and it's BYOB. highly suggest dining in so you can chat with the ladies and watch them grill your meats. make sure you order the imperial roll and remember to bring cash. they will accept cash or venmo for payment. we will definitely be back
The two aunties working are amazing, very sweet ladies! This restaurant is a quintessential hole-in-the-wall experience with good food to boot. We enjoyed the five spice chicken, pork chops, and imperial roll. It's a small place but very cozy - although not my favorite in terms of viet food, I would 1000% come back if I'm in the area because it was such a fun experience. The aunties are very giving and there is a real cozy feeling that's hard to describe. They take cash or venmo! There's a chase bank around the corner so you can also grab cash if you need.
